Story Description:

The great North American school of magic was founded in the seventeenth century. It stands at the highest peak of Mount Greylock, where it is concealed from non-magic gaze by a variety of powerful enchantments, which sometimes manifest in a wreath of misty cloud.

My Thoughts:

I was delighted when my husband told me about and the amazing short stories that can be found there.  We read the short story detailing the origins of the North American wizarding school, Ilvermorny, gearing up to watch Fantastic Beasts.

This story is a fast read, but a wonderful one for any other Harry Potter nerds out there! You get glimpses of some fantastic beasts that we haven’t heard about before (I haven’t had the pleasure to read “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” yet, so not sure if they are mentioned in there) and learned how a wizarding school may come to be.

The characters, while introduced in such a short time frame, were very likeable and you come to want to hear more about them in the future…especially the character William.  I won’t go into detail about this William, but I can tell you that I do hope that he may make an appearance in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

I enjoyed learning the words that the North American wizards use for non-magical folks as well as their form of the Ministry of Magic since they are both pointed out during the Fantastic Beasts movie.

It just re-heighted the amazing imagination that J.K. Rowling possesses and re-light my need to read anything and everything from this fun world!

If you are a fan of Harry Potter from reading the books to watching the movies, I’d highly suggest this fun and quick read!  I’d also suggest you exploring the other short stories that J.K. Rowling as written at…and if you are a true Potter nerd, set-up an account and take the various tests to be paired with your wand, petronus, Hagwards House and Ilvermorny House!! (I am a Thunderbird at Ilvermorny)

Below are my wish list of books from this world that I am hoping to get read in 2017:

  • All short stories at Pottermore
  • The Tales of Beedle the Bard
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  • Quidditch Through the Ages
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screen Play
  • The Three e-Books from “Pottermore Presents”
    • Hogwarts an Incomplete & Unreliable Guide
    • Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies
    • Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists
